Frequently considered the “happier” and “brighter” scale, the major scale consists seven notes connected by the following ascending intervals: two whole steps, a half step, three whole steps, and another half step. Descending, you just go in the reverse order. The endcaps of the scale are called the root, and the root is how the scale is named. For example, the major scale that goes from C to C is called the C major scale.
